9600 XT gone NUTS!!!

ok i bought a ati 9600 xt, and was ocing it. I bought the vga artic silent cooler and installed it, but it didnt fint on my mobo, so i had to put on old HS and fan. ANyways, after i re installed it, i can still OC a little, cause i got ram sinks, and i magane to score 5000 3d 03 marks. However, in any gaming, ad benchmark, i get mad lag every like 30 seoconds. Like, its fine, then stalls for a half second, then resumes, it dont mess with fps on 3d mark i guess, but i want to know what to do about this! I alreayd tried defragging, and that didnt help. any ideas?!?!!
 
He means did you have a Nvidia card installed before? I would run Driver Cleaner to clean out any old drivers(does both ATI and Nvidia).Try running with fastwrites disabled as well,that might increase stability.
 
There might be a process running in the background. As you play a game, hit alt+ctrl+dlt and go to processes and seeif theres anything using a large amount of CPU %. Probably spyware or something. Get ad-aware to clean everything up.
