I read on one of the forums the other day that someone heared you can enable the 4 reduntant piplines in the 9600 pro. I just want to know can this be done or is it physically impossible & are the extra 4 pipelines not there or just disabled.

I know it's one of those I heard questions so feel free to gun me down.

It can be done in 9500np with L-shape memory and not always succesfully. It can also be done in some 9800SE.

It's physically impossible.

I had heard this same rumor, I spent some time searching the web but got conflicting sotries on it. If we could enable an extra 4 piplines on the 9600 I think that would turn the card into one heck of a performer.

Anyway if anyone has info let us know!

I've heard that quite a few times now. I imagine that must be accurate but I hope it is not.

SickBeast is quite right, so you can give up hoping. the 9600 dosn't have 4 dormant pipes, it's already using everything it's got. As was mentioned before, only the 9500np and 9800SE have that potential because they are "factory defective" versions of 8 pipe chips.

Er..whoever told you that you can enable an additional 4 pipes on a 9600 pro is full of it. It would make absolutely no sense for ati to have 4 dormiant pipes, it would only increase production costs. There is no ati card using the rv350 chipset with 8 pipelines.

I don't think so, seeing as the 9600 was designed from the ground up to cut costs and save die space. It overclocks real well...
