I?m trying to decide on the card right now in anticipation of HL2 release. 9800 non-Pro is $60 more then 9600Pro. Is it worth the money?

A 9800np is only $60 dollars more? Where are you looking ? lol .

Ah, man did I get ripped off for 300.

I would'nt even consider a 9600p in the same league as a 9800 np.

Correct... but he said non-pro... so when we say yes we assume he doesn't mean the SE =)

hmmm go for the 9800np... and if you're lucky and it's with samsung 3.3ns, a simple BIOS flash will get you a nice 9800pro, after oc and adjustments!
...and get away from 9800se!

😀

i sell 9800 non pros on ebay. people seem to be very happy with them, lots of responses. if you are really lucky you can find one with 2.8 ns gc2a samsung ram.

tested some with a friend we got over 700 mhz memory in a few of them.

hans007, after testing with a 9800pro and a 9800np flashed with 9800pro bios (done also in rage3d forums) we found out that 3.3ns SAMSUNG memory present on the 9800np is infact 2.8ns labeled as 3.3ns (yields problems maybe?). The bios flash changes timings and the results show 2.8ns capabilites at least.
Many "flashers"9800np>9800pro bios confirm having gr8 performance gains and even overclocking capabilities that confirms the 2.8 original timings of the 3.3ns chips. (tests are still underway for max oc)

😀

yeah samsung tends to very conservatively mark their ram. they have the best ram manufacturing plants in the world and their yields are probably great.

i remember my 256mb pc2100 samsung ran pc3200 cas2.5 fine. that was kinda surprising.

Ayup. I was looking at a 9600 Pro (turbo-charged V4) for a while but settled on a refurbished 9700 Pro (powerful V8) and am going to softmod it to 9800 levels. 🙂
