9600 Pro vs. 9700?

Hi guys I have gotten my laptop choice down to two machines either the Dell 8600 or Hypersonic's new laptop the CX6.

The only real difference between the two is that the Hypersonic has a 9700 mobility in it opposed to a 9600 Pro Turbo. From the benchmarks on AT the 9700 has about a 24% performance improvement over the 9600. However I am mostly concerned with real world DX9 gaming situations opposed to a few points on a benchmark. The price difference between the two is about 500 dollars, which is a pretty big price difference...but if the 9600 can't play DX9 games sufficiently (HL2 and Doom 3) then it might be worth the extra 500 dollars to me.

I can't see the reason to pay 500 more for it. I have heard lots of good things about the 9600 in the Emachine has good overclock ability.

The 9600 pro turbo is pretty good from what i have heard...

500 $ is not worth it IMO.

if you want a 9700 in a dell, you cud get the (brick like) 9100....

If you don't need the laptop now, wait 6 months until the next dothan upgrades its FSB.

If you do need one now, you'll want the best performance NOW. That means Hypersonic. There is a noticeable framerate difference between 9700 and 9600 pro t in benchmarks, and that should be enough reason to push your decision one way or the other.

I wish you could get the P-M Hypersonic with a WUXGA screen. Anyone know of upcoming additions to their line?

Yeh I am looking at that notebook, waiting for someone who ordered it on notebookforums.com to post his review of it. Also waiting to check out Hypersonic's equivalent of the Voodoo M 860...if that is reasonably priced...I just might spring for that.

It's brick like because it's supposed to be DTR.

I never said its not a DTR, and its a good one at that...

The 8600 is pretty good too, and much more portable than the 9100. Its all about how important weight and battery life is to axeman...

Normally for a notebook PC, I'd say get the fastest cpu/video you can afford for it because upgrades are readily available or available at all most of the time. $500 though is damn expensive though.
If you can swing it, great but if you just got a 9600 you should be OK.
