9600 Pro or 9600XT?

I need to replace the card in my secondary PC and want something pretty good but cheap. I found a 9600xt and 9600 pro for $59.99. Which of the 2 should I get? Or is there a better, cheaper card even still?

At stock, a 9600XT>9600pro> and I think > any 9600/9550 series
9500pro is more or less equal to 9600XT but it lacks dx 9

I see, thanks for the help guys. Now I just have to decide if I should get it... It IS only $60, but I don't really need it... I had a spare geforce2 🙂laugh🙂 that I stuck in it and all the PC is for is internet browsing while I play WoW so I don't have to alt tab 😛

ummm way off...the 9500pro is a DX9 card..it was one of the first, generally a 9500pro is a tad faster than a 9600XT..which replaced it

no, 9700pro is a dx 9 card, but none other 9500 or 9700 series card is dx9, all are dx8 series, or 8.1 somthing

9550 maybe dx9

I suggest you go back in to the AT reviews and have a look at the 9500pro review...I know it's a DX9 card...because I still own one...the 9500/9500pro/9700/9700pro were all based on the same core...try getting your facts right before you post

christ you are a clown.

do you ever bother to read ANYTHING people post?

If you don't know anything (which is pretty much apparent from this thread), and you can't actually be bothered reading people's posts, which is also apparent, why do you post here?

Please, please, stop.

IIRC, ALL 9xxx serious GPU's were DX9 except 9000-9250 series. The 9500-9800 series are Definitely DX9 pieces.

well put...anything based on the R300 core is a full DX9 GPU...the 9000-9250 series were based on a cut down R250(8500) core and are DX8.1 only

Yep, I owned a 9550Pro and it was definitely DX9. That is to say, it was CAPABLE of DX9... performance sucked enough for me to bring it back down to DX8 and low-medium settings.

hey, dug! look at this!

edit: beaten to it

hmm, funny how after we tell him off, he doesnt post in this thread.

my friend told me that the difference he saw in his 9600pro and the 9600xt were the clockspeeds...but if they are the same price, no harm in choosing the faster clocked one!

9800se are around the price of a 9600pro and some can be OCd/unlocked to Pro speeds.

The one I had didn't unlock 🙁

I'm always so unlucky with those kind of things lol

yep, the pro has a 400mhz GPU, the XT has a 500mhz GPU IIRC....but the difference in speed are ah heck all...I bought a 9600 pro a few years ago and returned it a week later to get the newly released 9600XT and discovered that there was very little between them....but with that said, if you can get the XT for the same price as a PRO go for it

Another difference, I believe, is that XT has a temperature sensor. Pro does not and you cannot monitor its (Pro's) GPU temperature.

yep and support fro Ati Overdrive which is useless anyway...my gigabyte R96XT128 flakes out when it's enable and constantly crashes, but runs fine with it disabled
