i just installed this card on a budget rig. i can see bad fragmenting when i drag a window frame across the desktop? have not tried games or benchmark yet

latest drivers from ATI

19" widescreen LCD, 17" LCD, P4 @ 3.07GHz, 1MB ram

Maybe try turning off Fast Writes in the BIOS ?? Also, while you're in there and see what the AGP Aperture size is set to. Try setting it one setting higher than it is now.

Lastly, make sure the vid card fan is spinning OK, as my Sapphire 9600 Pro fan was not cooling squat and promptly got replaced with an Arctic Cooler Rev3.

cool, i wil check that

the fan is spinning, but the heatsink still looks really weak. i ran 3dmark03 and score 2990 3dmark06 scores were painful. like 1-2FPs in some of the tests

That sounds about right. Its an old slow card and you won't be able to play some of the new games with it.

yeah i know. i am using this as a work/internet PC.

i will be running an OC'd AMD with Nvidia card for gaming
