9600 Pro 256mb DDR

Get the 128 MB one.

From what i understand, the 256 is a waste of money, unless it's the same price as the 128 version.

If you can, go for the 9800 Pro 128 MB DDR (make sure it's 256-bit).

But what are you using the comp for?

The lastest games will play on a 9600 Pro, albeit on lower settings.
A 9800 Pro should be okay for a quite a bit longer than a 9600 Pro, imho.

Thanks man. I do play games but not a heavy 1st person shooter guy. I do like Hi-res that is why I thought the 256mb would help.

256MB of video memory on a 9600 is pointless when you consider the fact the GPU itself will be the severe performance bottleneck, long before the card runs out of RAM even in the case of a 128MB 9600. Don't fall into the "higher must be better" marketing trick.

Exactly how high is the "Hi-res" you are talking about? And how much are you willing to spend?

Hi

while we are talking about 256 vs 128

I am looking into buying a no fan vid card for a sff machine.

The 9600 np 256 is $103 HERE

The 9600np 128 is $95 HERE

I dont think 8 dollars is alot of money, other then price, is there any reason not to go for the 256?

also, does it matter what company to get te card from? connect3d vs sapphire vs powercolor?

TIA

yeah, the 256 cards are SLOWER than the 128 cards. they use crappy slow memory on them.

If you're spending between $100 and $150 on a video card, you will not find a better deal than this.

It's as fast as a 9600XT at stock speeds; and you have a 50% chance of it softmodding, in which case it's as fast as a 9800PRO. It's a win-win situation.

Get this card.

Um... that card is on par with the 5200U. A TERRIBLE card.

look at the frames in cod alone link i get 90-100 with a p4 2.0 ghz and a 9600xt (comparable to 9600pro). And they were using an A64 3400+

DO NOT GET THE 9550!

If you are going to get the 9800se the powercolor 9800se 256bit CL3 has the best chances of a sucessful soft mod at around 60%

Mine softmodded fine, crazy deal for 9800Pro speeds! Just be sure you get the 256-bit memory version and make sure it's powercolor!
