9600 AIW Pro can't hack it...

I know ATI AIW Pro's aren't the greatest, but i thought it should be able to handle the one game i do play once in a while: Need for Speed Underground.
With the resolution at 1280x1024 & the settings on medium & it's okay, but it can't handle the high settings, which is what i want, of course 😛
My system is a Barton on a A7N8X-E Deluxe with a gig of DDR400 (more specs in my sig)
Is it normal for this card to not be able to perform at those settings?

Try disabling motion blur and light trails ?

The graphics in NFS: Underground have been highly beefed up from NFS: Hot Pursuit 2. This game now supports some very detailed environment mapping over the ground and cars. There is support for light trails and motion blur as well. All of these effects can be customized for performance and image quality. In our testing we found that enabling Light Trails and or Motion Blur disables Multi-Sampling AA support in the game. If you enable AA in your control panel with Light Trails or Motion Blur enabled you will get the performance hit of AA but not the benefits of it. Polygon edges will still be very aliased.

In fact, in this editor?s personal opinion playing with Motion Blur and Light Trails disabled provided a much better gameplay experience. The Light Trails and Motion Blur make it hard to see what is going on around you and the road ahead of you. By disabling these effects you can see the game easier and get an FPS boost. You will then be able to enable Anti-Aliasing for increased image quality. However, there are some people that might enjoy these effects. They are easy to turn off and on so you can experiment with them yourself. In our testing here today though we have both Light Trails and Motion Blur disabled.

also, apparently EA no longer "officially" supports ATI cards so their games may not be optimized for ATI cards.

Strange, mine can handle it at highest settings (with AA off), and mine's an underclocked AthlonXP at 1.2Ghz, 512MB of 266Mhz RAM.
