9500pro vs 9600pro

i read the review that i THINK was done by firing squad comparring the oced 9500 pro and oced 9600 pro. obviously, the oced 9600 pro kills the non oced 9500 pro but thats not a fair comparison. in the review (with both cards oced), they performed almost exactly the same give or take 1-2% in most cases. so, my question is what would make you pick one over the other? i tend to learn towards the 9600 pro because the oc is easier (no flashing bios or anything)
 
I would take a 9500Pro as it has 8 rendering pipelines vs 4 in the 9600PRO.
Anyway both are a good choice, moreover after seeing what Nvidia is doing.
 
There is always the new 5600 Ultra. If you look at the Anandtech review on the 5900 Ultra you can see by the benchmarks the new flip chip designed 5600 is neck and neck with the 9600 Pro. It is also made with a .13 micron gpu, so I am sure overclocking will put it in the same company as the 9600 Pro or 9500 Pro overclocked.
 
There's no way of knowing which FX5600Ultra you would be getting at this point in time (new or old), and the old one is definitely not worth it. The 9500/9600 Pro is a better bet.

I agree that the 9500 Pro is a better choice without o/c, and there's no guarantees of success o/c any given 9600 pro card. As such, I would still recommend the 9500 Pro for a no-fuss upgrade option.

However, if power consumption were an issue for you, the 9600 might be a better choice. Also, according the recent Firingsquad review of the new Cat 3.4 drivers, the 9600 pro typically got a bigger boost than the 9500 pro did (although the difference is small). A bit disappointing, since I was hoping the new drivers would give the 9500 pro a greater edge (they don't).
