9500 to 9700 how the.....?

i know you cant do anything to a 9500pro, (less its on the L shaped ram pcb)

but how can a 9500np become a 9700?

they way i understand it is, the 9500 np has 4 pixel pipes.... and doesnt physically have the other 4 as in theres less transistors for that chip

so if its only got 4 pipes and 9700 has 8 then its not really 9500 to 9700 more like 9500 to 1/2 9700

Ok first, nothing can ever be done with a 9500 pro. They don't have the 256bit L shaped ram.

A np with L shaped ram has a 256bit bus and 8 pipes total, only 4 are enabled though, often cause 4 are defective. With the mod you open try opening up the other 4, which would give you a 9700. If the 9500np has the straight ram chips and you mod it, you'll get a 128 bit bus and 8 pipes, giving you a 9500 pro.

cheers for clearing that up...........i have known that you could do this for a while, until i read an article the other week that said the 9500 non pro physically didnt have 8 pipes...............but i guess they meant there was 4 fully working ones and maybes not 100% working remaining for.

i have a 9500pro, canny gutted i cant mod it or anything, but i saw some benchmarks earlier today and amazingly its keeping up nicely with the 9600XT beatin it in mothernature on 3d mark.

its only when AA and AF are turned on that the 9600xt pulls ahead. i would say i havent got the most out of this card (9500pro) my computer is canny poor by todays standards and it seem cpu, mobo and memory are limiting my games playability (smooth frame rates are what i want who cares bout 200+fps u cant tell)

No doubt. Your 9500 Pro is a very nice card. If you haven't already, you should look into unlocking the BIOS and overclocking it.

Here.

im not dure if it needs doing to be honest, i use omega drivers with that rad clocker and it works fine. its only a cheapskate connect 3d card which would have been an OEM part had it not been for the black n red connect 3d box!)

but ill check ur link just in case

The 9500 Pro is locked in the BIOS. You have to unlock it or your "overclocking" is doing nothing.

it definatley works, ive had 317 core and 310 on the memory which pushed my 3d mark upto 4100. which aint bad for this cheap ass system

xp2000
kt333 ultra
512 pc2100 (no apparent make)

ok... ill try it, not entirely sure what to do but i know i have to get the bios that matches my ram, i got infineon 3.3ns ram so i found that bios and i got one of the flash utils from the bottom of the page

Hey, if your scores went up considerably with overclocking, there's no reason to flash your card. Every 9500 Pro I've seen has been locked, but the Connect3Ds may be unlocked. It's worth some research before you flash the card.

Not all 9500's are locked. And since your scores went up quite a bit, yours obviously isn't. I wouldn't bother flashing the bios, especially if you don't know what you're doing. If you flash it incorrectly you could kill the card.

yeah i dont want it to die..........its my best ever purchase! 130 quid well spent. see i made the colossal mistake of thinking the Geforce 4 MX was good, i was then offered a geforce 3 ti 200 for like 30 quid! and i though hold on im downgrading arent i? boy was i wrong.........then my friend showed me to ATI after he got his 9700pro, and not being as rich as him i decided the 9500pro would do nicely!

cheers guys

I have heard of many 9500 pros being unlocked pretty srue it was saphire and connect 3d, though I had to flash my saphire one to OC some reason they locked a few of them, The funny thing is they send Redline Saphires OCing tool with the card haha.
