9500 PRO

I picked up a used 9500 PRO and noticed that it works okay most of the time, but sometimes it displays verticle banding even during boot up or in the BIOS, leaving me to believe it isn't a driver problem since drivers haven't been loaded yet; however, reinstalling the drivers or rebooting will usually clear it up. I also played a demo of Flatout and noticed some major artifacts.

I was wondering if the card was bad or if maybe someone had done a bad flash on it. I've never flashed a video card before and was wondering if someone might have some info on the problem. I searched ATI and Google but found nothing specific about where to get the firmware.

Any help would be appreciated.

The card is in an Abit KD7\XP3000 (latest BIOS)\Antec 350 TP power supply, 3 hard drives, WinXP Pro.

Thanks

I donno about the artifacts but try the DVI connector with a VGA adapter if you've got a CRT. I had some weird banding when I used the VGA connector as did many other 9500 Pro users.

i have a 9500 pro as well of which i could download the bios from and send to you. however, i need to know EXACTLY what video card you have, down to the memory chips and timings on it. this can sometimes be gotten from the video card ID's in the card properties.

try using the other connector first:

if it doesn't work then:

this should help you get an ati card bios:

DON'T attempt to download any of these unless you have compared every property of the one you want to the exact memory chip and other ID's on your graphics card. if you flash the wrong one the whole card will be worthless. if youre unsure post your card bios ID under catalyst options right here and someone can help you.

The 9700 pro in my son's system showed a lot of the symptoms you describe. The artifacts started after I had swapped out his power supply. I finally put a slight bend in the pins where a floppy power cable connects to the card. The more secure physical connection of the pins must have done the trick.

Many thanks to you all. I'll give the DVI\VGA connector a shot and see what happens. I'll also check the power connector since I do remember thinking it could have fit a little tighter than it did.

I'll reply back with the results but it may be a day or two. Thanks again.
