9500 Pro Vs 9800 Pro

I'm building my next system, and have been out of the loop on hardware too long to know how much of a performance difference the near $200 will make. Should i stick with a 9500 Pro or go ahead and splurge to get the 9800 Pro. I want this system to last me a good 3-4 years.

Yes, Kamper,it is from Boondock Saints.

So the vote is go for a 9700 Pro? but at that point, a 9800 Pro is only like 80 dollars more or something...so..

Radeon 9700 Pro ($308) Radeon 9700 Pro AIW ($325) or Radeon 9800 Pro ($388) ?

Get the 9800 pro or if you love to overclock then maybe a 9800 non-pro. The 9800 Pro beats the $500 fx5900 in many less-"optimized" timedemos / benches so it's a good value for the high end.

In the nvidia-sponsored Doom3 alpha a 9800 pro gave over 40 fps at 1024x768 High Quality mode. Anything less than a 9800 Pro and you'll probably have to settle for Medium Quality or 800x600 unless id does a lot more optimizing for ATI (which they might).

Even if not overclocking you could buy 9800 a non-pro and just expect to replace it sooner than the 9800 pro.

Another vote for a 9700 pro. Amazing performance considering cost/performance ratio. They've been going for about $205-$235 used/refurb around the forums, and on newegg.

A ~$205 9700 (non-Pro, Sapphire OEM @ Mwave and Powercolor retail @ GameVE) is your best bet in terms of price/performance.

bestbuy has the 9700pro for $250 on clearance. also, it is quite overclockable, i got mine to 370/340 (see sig) on STOCK

Well remember you do not need a whole lot of frames in a game like Doom 3. It will be more like a splinter cell game then anything else. Quake, Half-Life, halo, and UT is another story because of the intense shoot outs between 8 other opponents or bots jumping all over the place.
