9500 pro or 9600 ?

Which is a better card ? I have a 9500 pro and I now see these 9600 around, I am not interesting in buying one but am wondering which is a better card.

The 9500 PRO is faster than a 9600. If you can get a VERY good overclock out of a 9600 PRO, then it'll be almost as fast.

Yeah, the fact that the 9600 has 1/2 the pixel pipelines of the 9500 really cripples it, no matter how high you can rev up the clock speed.

If you're talking about a 9600np then a 9500 pro will absolutely kill it. If you're talking about a 9600 pro, then the 9500 pro is still a good 15% faster. A 9500 pro is basically the same as a 9700, except it doesn't have the 256 bit memory.

I have a question. How come in this review, the 9600 outperfroms the 9500...

<-- building new rig and also needs to decided on a video card...

Are you talking about the test results using an overclocked 9600 PRO?
Don't you think it'd be more fair to compare it to an overclocked 9500 PRO?

Ah but we've seent hat the 9600pro is a freaking great overclocker...

...but no one knows how good of an overclocker the 9500pro is...is it a good overclocker or not outta curiosity?

Mwave had Radeon 9700 NP OEM instock for $199 which is basically the same price, too bad there not instock anymore. I would get the 9500PRO and try to overclock it.

out of the ATI cards and geforce FX 5200 and 5600 I am under the inpression the radeon 9500 pro is still the best of the bucnh am I right on this ?

If you're looking to spend the ~$200 for a video card, do yourself a foavour and bump that up to $250 so that you can get a 9800np. But, if the absollute most that you can spend is $200 get the 9700np (if you can find one) or 9500pro.

BTW, from everything I've seen:

9800np ~= 9700pro > 9700np >9500pro > 9600pro in terms of performance.

if your not ina hurry, you can quite often find a 9700NP for $200 , if you look around for one in stock...

if not, 9500 PRO....avoid FX5200 and FX5600 for now...

fx5200 = mx440 performance in many situations, this card is a joke.
fx5600 = slower than a ti4200. if it's an ultra rev 1 it can sometimes outperform a ti4200. If it's an ultra rev2 it's pretty fast, but then it costs near $200.
9500 pro = best out of the bunch. It will beat all those other cards. But, if you're paying close to $200 for it, better to get a 9700np.

Eh, I'm still not convied between the 9600 PRo and 9500 Pro. If the 96P can OC and perform just as well, AND costs at least $100 cheaper, then isn't it the better deal?

Except that a 9500 PRO isn't $100 more than a 9600 PRO.

Yeah sorry, Canadian dollars 😛 So do you think the extra perfromance of the 9500 Pro worth the extra 77 dollars?

No I dont think it's worth the exta 77$ , I found the 9600Pro even cheaper if you dont mind going OEM but they have the retail one too for cheaper than sprint at Ottawa.

ATI (Sapphire) Radeon 9600 PRO 128MB OEM CAN$238.85

ATI (Sapphire) Radeon 9600 PRO 128MB RETAIL CAN$248.85

budman is right, it isnt worth the difference. if you check out the firing squad review of both cards when overclocked, they perform IDENTICAL is a vast majority of tests
