I'm going to buy a new video card this week and I was wondering if the software hack for the radeon 9500 non pro was still working.

First off, only about %70 of people were successfull in getting a no-artifact mod. Secondly, the PCB design has changed to stop allowing the mod. If you still want to give it a shot, the moddable cards are the one's with the ram arranged in an "L" pattern with the power conn. at the end of the card. (Just like a 9700 Pro)

The newer card design has the ram configured in an in-line pattern with the power conn at the top of the card, near center.(Just like a 9500 Pro) This is the card you DON'T want. But however, people are claiming that the hack will turn these cards into 9500 Pro's because it still enables the other 4-pipes. You just don't get 256-bit memory bus to go with it.

I would buy a 9500 Pro, or a 9700 non-Pro

What do I do with the power cable? Do I have to plug it in for the card to work?
Thanks.

No luck. I did the software mod and it has artifacts as soon as I boot back into windows.
