950 and K7M

I am helping my friend install a new Slot A Athlon 950 into his older Asus K7M motherboard. We have the bios updates to the latest revision, and his current cpu, which is 700 works like a champ. Whenever the 950 is inserted, everything is detected fine, but once it gets a mouse cursor in windows, it freezes completed, forcing me to switch the power. The computer runs in safe mode for a while, but eventually locks up. Going back to the 700, everything works fine. We are using the same generic heatsink, that his orignal 700 came with. I think that the heatsink isn't cooling enough and overheating causing the lockups. I was wondering if anyone else had any ideas on the problem? If heat is the problem I was wondering if anyone new of a heatsink which will work with an Asus K7M. I took some measurements and checked some places online, and it looks like the power connector is going to be in the way all of the really good coolers, like alpha. Would like to know of any good heatsinks that fit K7M and where to pick on up. Thanks a bunch guys.

Are you absolutely sure that you have a Classic Athlon and not a Slot A TBIRD.?? Classics will show K7950xxx as a product # and TBIRDS will show A0950xxx.
