945 chipset motherboard - can it take DDR2-800?

So, I'm wondering if it's possible to hand-me-down a pair of DDR2-800s to a 945 board.

- The chipset is spec'd to accept DDR2 400 / 533 / 667
- The RAM is capable of 533 / 667 / 800

Yep- the overlap there will work fine- and at least if you're overclocking you know you won't be bound by the ram

The rated speed on a DIMM is its /maximum/ speed. The mainboard dictates the /actual/ operating speed. Now since there's no (relevant) lower limit to any DIMM's operating speed, the answer is:

Yes, running a "fast" DIMM in a "slow" mainboard is generally possible and working.
