I want to know because I dont want to jump into the 939 market and pay $500 for the starting cpu...

Yes, Sylvanas in reference to Tolkien. Got it from a biography I read about him. If I only knew what I know now I would have visited his grave. I was probably only a mile from it in 1994.

Bar81 that seems too far off for doing it. I would think Q3 or never. I sure wish the 939 socket starting cpu was cheaper. They must be trying to sell all the 754 socket stuff first and did it on purpose. BASTARDS because so many of us waited so long...

yes tolkein was a marvellous writer (reading silmaril now) getting back on track i think it would be quite a bad move for amd not to release some slower processors on 939.

Bar81 most common reason are Hyperthreading, pci-e, upgrade path etc. You already have a nice system I have a crappy system and want newest for my upgrade when I do it. I am running 1.333 GHZ Asus A7V133... Three identicle system and I wanted to upgrade all three systems but the intro cpu just too high for me so I may have to settle for 754 on just one system and wait till Jan 2005 to upgrade everything to 939 etc. I wont upgrade anything untill I can finaly buy a 6800GT and then I will make my decision. I always have the same mobo and less ram and slower video and slower cpu and stuff on the other systems but want the same mobo on all for trouble shooting.

No A64 has or will ever have hyperthreading; you're confused there. PCI-E will appear on S754. The upgrade path is limited as in H2 05 S900 w/DDR2 will replace S939. You'd be best off with S754 system.

Yeah, I meant hypertransport. Yes, well if I had a better choice as far as the starting cpu it would still be 939 for me but since I wont have that in the next month or so when the 6800GT finally is available to buy I will most likely go with the 754 socket but I will reserve judgement for now since I am still waiting for that 6800GT.

amd will make a socket 939 3200+/3300+ cpu. it'd be a really stupid to not expand the socket 939 cpu production. as of now, the cheapest 939 cpu costs over $400, whcih is ridiculous when half the people who build computers are on a budget.
