939 pin processor in 940 pin socket

forgive my noobishness, but is it / will it ever be possible to put a 939-pin processor in a 940-pin motherboard?

obviously you couldn't do the reverse, but . . .

Probably not because the microcode would be different and the integrated memory controller would not have the registered memory microcode necessary to run the memory.
