'93 RX7 with 389RWHP

Link won't come up for me.

389 RWHP is minor upgrades to a 13b isn't it? Stock turbos even, best I can figure not having one.

Edit: just saw the link... they just stuck a LS1 in there thats cheating... but very nice none the less. In one of my favorite colors even (any range of 0x000000 to 0xFFFFFF where R=G=B 😉 )

Ahh motor swap, otherwise he would be hauling a trailer full of liquid nitrogen behind him for safety.

Does the LS1 weigh more than the LS7? I know the LS2 is lighter than the LS7.

LS7 weight: 458 Fully dressed
LS1/LS6 weight: 497.2 fully dressed (manual)
B13-REW weight: Best figure I can cull up is 390-450lbs fully dressed

It's in part because the LS7 has very, very thing cylinder spacing from being bored out so much.

As for $, I can understand, but there's got to be a rich guy out there with a RX7

Weird the manual one is so much heavier than the auto. Heavy flywheel perhaps? Still, it's almost 40 lbs, so it couldn't be just the flywheel.

The LS2 is 448 lbs fully dressed, 10 lbs less than the LS7.

Flex plates are quite a bit lighter than flywheels. About 40LBs for the flywheel, about 15LBs for a flex plate.

Edit:
It's also possible that they're adding in the clutch disk and pressure plate as well on the manual.

The closest I could find is 443 for the Auto LS2
http://wheeltalk.fancal.net/?p=634

so I really think the Manual LS2 weighs more.

As for why, well I know the manual LS2/7 have transmissions in the rear, right next to the rear axle not sure about LS1/6 and autos but maybe, like the Maserati Quattroporte, the Autos are directly connected to the engine(while the manuals are conected directly to the differential) and if you add the weight of the shaft(don't remember the name but its not a half-shaft, something like transfer shaft?), that might add weight.

Also, the auto up until recently has been 4 speed, not 6 like the manual so that saves weight too.

The only LS-powered cars with rear-mounted transmissions are Corvettes. F-Bodies, GTO's, etc have a regular front-mounted transmission.

The 4L65E 4spd auto in the GTO weighs 194.6 lb. The T-56 6spd manual used in the GTO & CTS-V weighs 121 lb. Both weights include fluid. Auto's damn near always weigh more than manuals, as far as passenger vehicles go.

The following is from the January 2006 issue of Sports Car International on page 35 regarding the LS7:

The net result is a fully trimmed engine that weighs 458 pounds, only 10 more than the 6.0-liter LS2."

For comparison, AMG's all-new 6.3 liter V-8 (it is actually a 6.2 liter V-8, but it will be called a 6.3 liter V-8 to pay homage to the 250 hp 1967-1972 300SEL 6.3) weighs 438 pounds vs. 485 pounds (old 5.4 liter supercharged V-8). The new V-8 has 510 hp at 6,800 rpm and 630 Nm at 5200 rpm.

Also, BMW's M5 Product Information Guide says that the 5.0 liter 500 hp (SAE net) V-10 weighs 240 kg/529 lbs.

My weight figures for the LS1 and 6 are from a corvette website, about a 2001 C5 corvette so I was using the corvette as the application to figure out why the manual weighs so much more.

Maybe the manual doesn't weigh any more than the autos in the new engines then and I guess the LS7 would have heavier pistons, cranks, connecting rods, etc.

OK so the C5 automatic was a 4L60E. A 4L60E in a truck application weighs 163-195 lb. The T-56 in a C5 would still weigh at most 121 lb. Point is - manual weighs less than an auto. That is pretty much the rule.

Much more expensive and harder to find...plus LS1 is overkill as it is. That engine is a freak.
