'93 Asuna Sunrunner with no key for door lock.

My sister bought a '93 Asuna Sunrunner this past summer. (rebadged Geo Tracker AFAIK)

Anyway, there is a key for the ignition, but the key doesn't lock/unlock the doors or trunk. The car just never gets locked. I'd like to fi this for my sister.

How can I go about getting a key to lock the doors? I find it strange that the key works in the ignition but not in the doors.

Might there be a generic key that I can get from some place that works on a specific number of locks? I don't think Asuna even exists anymore.

Most likely the door locks got replaced and were never rekeyed to the original key. You could take the car to just about any locksmith and either get the locks rekeyed or a key made just for the door locks. It's probably cheaper just to get a key that fits the locks.

Lost my door key once in Tijuaua. Got a locksmith to come over and make a new key.

He stuck a screwdriver through the keyring hole in a blank key, put the key in the lock, used the screwdriver to twist the key in both directions, then hit the screwdriver once with a hammer in each direction. He pulled the key out, filed down where the pin marks are, and did it again.

only took him 3 tries and I had a brand new key that fit the door! 😀

Kinda scary, actually...heh

I might just have to learn how to do that 😉

wow...thats all they need to do?!

That's the Mexican way to do it. I would take the VIN number to a dealer and they can make you a real key.
How would that do anything?

What is confusing about this? The dealer will make you a new key with the VIN number.

Stick with a private company like Pop-A-Lock. They charged me $50 for a door key. Better than the $130 the dealer wanted.
