93 3dmarks?!?

Okay, I downloaded 3dmark 03 for fun to see what I would get. I've got an mx440 and a celeron 2.4ghz, with 512mb of ram. My computer is only capable of test 1. I ran it and it gave me 93. I knew it was going to be low, but 93?!? I'm getting a 3.0ghz p4 pressott and a 6800ultra soon, so what should my score be with that?

thats 3dmark01.
3dmark05 is much harder on the pc.
top of the line pc MIGHT be able to get 4k maybe a little more tops.

but diont forget you also need at least 1gig ram, 3200+ oced to at least 2.2 and a good ps/'mb combo.

DOnt worry. 3dMark is only for bragging rights. There are so many optimizations in that software that it isn't a really accurate representation of your performance anymore. As long as your games play fine dont worry.

However, your system gets a HUGE penalty for no DX8 8.1 or 9.0 support. Additionally the Celeron really cripples performance as well as 512mb of Single Channel Memory.

DX7 hardware like the MX440 will only run test 1 - still, since I've seen a P4 2.0 GHz with a PCI (!) Radeon 7000 score about 90 just this weekend, I'd say this is about normal. Remember 3DM03 was written to push 2003's high end cards past their limits - and now look at how old the GF2MX core still used in the MX440 is, and how the MX series is the bottom end of the scale.

i think ur mistaken bud.

12k is about right on a high end system for 03, not 01.

a system that does 12k on 03 will do about 19-21k on 01 and 5-6k on 05

edit: lol my cell phone can score about as high as that, time to upgrade OP

are we talking about highest setting tests? technically those are the best to distinguish good from better cards. a 6800gt hq will only do about 7k-8k 3dmark 03s.

edit: thats on a monster system too:
Test setup:
# AMD Athlon 64 3800+ @ 2.46GHz
# 1024MB Crucial Ballistix PC3200 DDR @ 205MHz
# Abit AV8 (Via K8T800 pro chipset)
# PNY GeForce 6800 GT, Detonator 66.81
# Crucial Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB, Catalyst 4.10
# Windows XP Service Pack 2, DirectX 9.0c

o. i just find that with a crappy cpu though, it can be quite cpulimited at default. i like hq setting tests.

none of the futuremark benchmarks need over 512 MB of ram. having an excess of ram doesn't add to your score, the program uses what it needs, the rest does nothing.

Hey man-

Check this out. I got a athlon64 3200+ 512 megs of ram a 6800gt oc too 400/1.1 and im getting 22000 some odd points in 2001, 12277 points in 2003 and a little over 5000 in 2005
You should get these types of scores with your new system
