92mm to the CPU fan connect on my mainboard ?

Hi, I'm just putting my new alpha 8942 up to my P4b266-c and I was wondering if connecting a 92mm panaflo to the CPU fan connector on the motherboard would cause problems, I know it was a strick NO-NO before to do this, but aren't newer boards able to handle it now?

Thanx for any info

Check your motherboard manual for fan header current draw allowance, then check your fan. I just put an 80mm fan on my motherboard and it draws less current than the 60mm fan I took off (less than half!)

Unless you really want RPM monitoring, you may as well connect it using a 4 to 3 pin adaptor (if you have one). Why steal current from your CPU and mobo when you can use another connector to the PS instead.

Edit: btw, would you be so kind as to post the difference the PAL8942 makes over the stock HSF (as well as what kind of fan you're using with it). That would be sweet.

I can tell you what I get from the PAL, but I can't compare since I never used the stock fan.

I'm using a 92mm panaflo Model# FBA09A12h, if it was a newer model drawing .29A I'd feel safer about hooking it to the main board, but it's an older one (.57A). but i'll be sucking 53cfm over that Alpha at 35db which isn't that much louder that the stock fan which I think overclockers.com listed at 33db (I could be wrong on that)

Anyway, I'll tell you guys the stats when I get it up and running.

My mobo says it supports fans of 350mA or less (I've run fans of 220mA and 100mA...I think you might be pushing it.

I wouldn't. Good chance you'll blow your header. Besides, that fan doesn't support RPM monitoring anyway. Just hook it up with a molex connector.
