I have a Enlight case with a rear 80mm fan vent. I bought a case fan, thinking it would fit. Turns out I bought a 92mm case fan.

I could drill four quick holes in the case and mount the fan. The vent holes appear to cover most, but not all, the fan size.

Anyone try this? I guess the downside is too much noise/turbulence.

if you have to drill holes for a 92mm fan anyway, why not just saw out a bigger hole? you'd even improve airflow by getting rid of the resistance of the case.

Well, the answer is that I want to do avoid all the metal shavings that will fall on my motherboard and elswhere in my case. Plus, it more work.

Sure, drilling holes will produce some metal bits, but the operation will take 20 secs, with no cut nuckles, etc. and no slice fingers down the road when I forget I cut off the grill.

I think I'll try it out and see what type of resistence/noise I get.

Just use that Foam double faced tape a put a piece on each corner of the fans over the screw holes and this will hold the fan in place. It also acts as a cusion for the fan and it is easy to remove, works great. That way you don't have to drill any holes and if you want to go back to the 80mm fans you won't have messed your case up.
