9200SE vs FX5200

I know for starters that in most of benches FX5200 is a clear winner and it's more comparable to a regular 9200.
My friend tries to decide between an FX5200(I don't know the brand) and a HIS 9200SE.
Don't tell me about prices cauz I leave in Greece and things here are different regarding prices.Just performance especially in DX9.
And the most important is there any change that 9200se with 64bit bus can be modded?

And I never heard of a 9200SE with a physical 128-bit memory bus AFAIK.

Yes you're right. My mistake.I show again and it was the memory not the bus.

But can the 9200se outperform fx5200 on dx9?

And can it be modded?

9200SE is not DX9 compliant so it cannot run in DX9 hardware mode. Thus you couldn't compare a 9200SE and a FX5200 on DX9. The 9200SE is especially horrible in ANY 3D app.

EDIT: What does your friend planning to do with these cards anyway?.

The 9200SE can run dx9 applications but the performance is not like that of a true dx9 card. On the other hand the 5200 sux in dx9 anyhow. Personally I would not even consider either of these cards having any decent performance when using dx9 but I would bet on the 5200 before the 9200 SE. Remember, there are also 5200's with 64bit memory since the OP said he didn't know the brand.

Yep, the 9200 is a DX8.1 card, so you can't really compare DX9 performance.

Very true, there are some things the 9200SE can't do, but any game/app/prog in general that doesn't use these DX9 hardware dependent features (such as the nature in 3dmark) but still written in DX9 will still run, albeit very slowly. Good job pointing out the need for clarification! There were some tests in 3dmark01 my GeForce2 Ti couldn't do as it was a dx7 based card. Like I say though, I'd still shoot for a 5200 as it will run the dx9 features.

by the way, no a 9200SE can't be modded as far as I know of.

Interesting point: in my testing, the old GeForce2 Ti (64MB) still scores marginally *higher* than the 9200SE (128MB) in 3Dmark01, despite the GeF2 not being able to run all the tests. On the dx7 based 3Dmark2000, the GeF2 Ti is a clear winner.

But the 9200SE is still a fine card for a non-gamer ... just picked up a Powercolor 9200SE (with dual DVI/VGA ports!) for my mother for about $45US. Can't argue with that.

Yeah I loved that geforce 2 Ti.:brokenheart:
I bought it for ~100 back in 01 and it still works beautifully and is faster than some "new" cards like the 9200SE even with half the ram and a 3-4 yr old GPU! Gotta miss nvidias glory days!
