915G + Pentium D805

Hi everyone,

I just got a Shuttle XPC SB86I and a Pentium D805 processor as a low cost dual core SFF box. The Shuttle box has an Intel 915G chipset with the LGA775 socket. They should work together, right?

Right now when I power the system on I get *NOTHING* -- no keyboard LEDs, no monitor response, no beeps... The only reason I know the power is on are the case LEDs and the system fan.

Time to start pulling components...*sigh*

Have you checked Shuttle's site? You might need a BIOS update.

Also try the forums at sudhian.com, it's chock full of shuttleites.

The bios history for this box doesnt say anything about supporting for new processors. The last bios does have a CPU micro code update, though...

I'll check out sudhian forums too.

thanks

Maybe I'm just the bringer of false information - but I seem to remember reading some article saying the 915 chipsets would not support dual core cpus...

The only Intel chipsets that support dual core are the 865PE, 875PE, and all 945 and higher chipsets.

*DOH* now I see the light. I'll have to see if I can get an RMA rolling. Upon further reading it sounds like this shuttle box isn't a good model to begin with.
