Can you get 911 service with a cell phone? I tried once to report a drunk driver, but it wouldn't go through. Is there a special number to call, like *777 or something?

I believe that 911 on a cell phone goes to the highway patrol. Individual counties set up different numbers that can be called on a cell phone that go through to the emergeny dispatcher.

Uk:

999 on a land line or mobile,
123 if 999 doesn't work on some mobiles.

If I were to call the police on the 999 number over a traffic offence then I would be miss-using police time (apparently you have to call the nearest station for that - yeah, I'm realy gonna have the numbers for all the police stations I pass during my daily travels)

if it didnt go thru, try again.. many times 911 is busy or there is a wait time.. depends on which county and what time of the day.

I have been on line for 20 minutes before 911 actually responded, not hold, online, meaning the 911 system picked me up but i didnt talk to a operator for 20 minutes.

how long ago? I thought the feds passed a law saying you can't be charged for 911 calls.
