Okay, okay, so I know they are very cool running processors. I am thinking of overclocking it to 2.2-2.4Ghz (I have 2x512Mb of Ballistix DDR400) and I'm wondering if a Thermaltake Silent Boost K8 is okay. I use a 420W OCZ PowerStream PSU, SLK3700AMB case, 2x120mm case fans (front fan is an adjustible Enermax one) and I have the lowest 5.25" cover modified (cut out inside of it and glued a small screen onto it--works great to catch dust) so that I have another clear path going across the CPU area. As a result, my 2500+ at 2.2Ghz never goes above 103 F (SLK-800A + 80mm Smart Fan II operating at 3300rpm) in a room that is commonly around 66 degrees fahrenheit.

Anyone know if a Silent Boost K8 would be just dandy, or should I look elsewhere? I am going to put it into an AV8, for your information. I like the temps people tell me they get with them and how quiet it runs, plus I notice that anandtech uses it in reviews.

I just, you know, need some user input on people that actually use it with overclocking.

If 2.4 is your goal, I'd buy a retail CPU and use the included HSF. My OC is higher than 2.4 and I'm on stock cooling.

im using a very similiar setup to you and i use the stock heatsink and my idle temps are around 35C and around 49-50 at load.... so the k8 would be even better cooling solution, i am OCing to 2.3ghz too, although can't really go higher because of the agp lock not working at high fsb's on this board.

If I can go higher, I will ;). That was just something I was tossing out there for a number. You meant I should get the retail .13micron 3000+, right? I had thought of that, but I had a few people around the area (where I live) that commented that the retail HSF is good, but that it is a little louder than the Silent Boost K8, so thats why I was leaning towards it. Also, the proven overclockability of the 90nm core (plus the articles about how low the power consumption is under load compared to other Athlon 64s as well) 64s was the draw.

Those are some awesome temperatures you get there, now I am confident about the purchase. :D
