900NF or 900IFT?

Shadow mask and Aperture Grille are completely different kinds of monitors. Here is a good summary of dot pitch and shadow mask vs aperture grille. You cant really compare IFT's 0.20 horizontal dot pitch to NF's 0.25 grille pitch.

LXi? No offence, but plenty of other ppl around here know just as much about monitors as him. Just a lot of stupid ppl around as well.

Most people here don't know all the monitor makes, tubes types, max resolution/refresh rates, dot pitch measurements. LXi has all this memorized and he's always willing to help people here.

I drop into this forum from time to time, and it seems LXi is in every monitor thread spreading the knowledge. Does a pretty good job too. I can't comment on many monitors because I've never seen most of em that people like to buy.

But I do know this, always take the 900NF over the 900IFT. Prices are similar, both good monitors(I own the 900IFT, kicks ass). Everyone seems to agree though that the 900NF is the better monitor, not only because it's an aperture grille but it also has more bandwidth, for higher resolutions. If they carried the 900NF at my local Best Buy I surely would have bought it again. Hell if they had any nice Trinitron monitors i would have bought it. Unfortuneatly the 900IFT was the best monitor my Best Buy ever carried, even today.

The IFT's .20dp is horizontal and it is higher than that diagonal. Horizontal is put there to make it look like it has SO MUCH LOWER dot pitch that other monitors when in fact the diagonal of .20dp is about .24dp (give or take 1, I'm not sure). And as LXi said, you can't compare them since they are different types of display technology but I just thought I would let you know on the horizontal pitch.

I went through this in late summer and my two picks were the 900IFT and 900NF. I had originally ordered the 900IFT but it was backordered and LXi gave me a last minute recommendation to snag the 900NF. I'm really glad he did, since I think I'd be more satisfied with my 900NF then a 900IFT. First, the max resolution and refresh rates are higher. Second is that it is a aperture grill. The two faint lines across the screen do not bother me at all. I play games a lot so I'll take a AG monitor's better color and brightness over slightly better text quality of the IFT or other shadow masks.
