I hve 900 for my new computer. What components should i get? I dont understand all that ram has to equal processor stuff on overclking but i do want to overclk. shhould i get a p4c or a 64?

get a mobile athlon 64, cheiftec nf3 mobo, 512mb-1gb of low latency pc3500 or higher ram, radeon 9800 pro, antec sonata, and wutever u have leftover if u have anything left. 🙂

First off, what components do you need? Do you already have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc? Is the tower and its components all you need? Also, are you including the cost of an OS in that $900?

Will this system be used for one main purpose, such as gaming, video encoding, or general use such surfing the web, burning CD's, occasional gaming, etc?

As suggested earlier, I would definitely stick to the 64 bit system, and if you're willing to wait a bit you might consider waiting for the pci-express slots to be standard in mobos.

I was just about to ask this same question for a friend of mine. Right now he's got a Thermaltake Xaser III and a X800Pro that were given to him for his graduation. Now he's got roughly $900 to buy everything else including monitor, keyboard, and speakers. He's going to use his father's copy of WinXP Home for the OS. He's going to use it strictly for gaming, surfing, and the occational college paper. 😉

I came up with:

A64 2800+ Retail
CHAINTECH "VNF3-250" nForce3 250
OCZ Performance Series 512MB PC-3200 Rev 3
Hitachi 80GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
SAMSUNG 955DF-T/T 19" DynaFlat CRT Monitor
Logitech Z640 speakers
NEC 8X Black Dual Layer DVD+/-RW Drive, Model ND-2510A
Logitech Elite KB
Plantronics Audio .90 headset

im not a expert on how the XPs go, but if im correct he can't use his dads XP Home if his dad is still using it.

Try a wd SATA drive instead

Oh. I guess he'll have to buy it then. That means something has to go.
