After the whole muffler falling off issue with my Jetta(see thread).. I am in the market for a new car and saw this one audi... the guy is asking 5,495 which I thought was pretty high. It has 240hp which would be very nice 🙂.. I did a blue book on it and it says in "average" shape its about 3,500.. which sounds very reasonable to me. If I could talk him down to 3-3.5K for it, I would be all over it 🙂... and yes i know this is my 8030348th car advise thread... but I am serious this time that its time for something new. thanks

Better sock away about $150 a month for repairs....cuz they AIN'T gonna be cheap. And they are going to come often.

I'd steer clear if it was my $$$.

I would be very concerned about what kind of repairs might be waiting for you with an Audi of this age/mileage. Audis are expensive to repair and if some major repairs haven't already been done, you can expect them to come soon. If the guy can provide detailed records as to what maintaince has been performed, and if some of the big stuff has already been taken care of, then this might be a decent buy. With proper care, I'm sure you could easily drive this car over 200k+ miles.

I am trying to find something in the $3,000 range. I was thinking about a newer like 96 Jetta... but right now I am having second thoughts. I would go lease a new car but I have no credit, and I am having a tough time finding a co-signer... my zipcode is 05401.. if you guys could find something in that range that would be great.. thanks

isnt that just an Audi 50?
like a 5 cylinder??

it says in has a V8... i went on edmunds and it checked out no problem.... the value still in average condition is nowhere near the price he is asking though. I am about to send him an email and maybe check out the car.

buy Japanese car. you'll be glad you did.. 🙂

my dad does sell Toyota's so I could get one of those at cost... theres no way they would approve me though. Being a college student and working part-time its going to be tricky to me a payment every month. If I had the chance I would go for maybe a 03 Celica, but thats just a dream at this point.

Well if you dad sell's toyota's, then he probably knows somebody that moves used cars within the dealership. He can probably get a trade in car at cost or near it. I'm sure they'll have some mid 90's camry's coming in that they gave somebody $3000-$5000 for. See what he can do.

I fail to understand why you would ditch a newer car because the muffler fell off. It would cost only $150 or so to get everything to normal.

EDIT - horrible typing skills

A college student working part-time is not going to be able to afford a car like this. I bet the insurance would be higher than you think, repairs will be very costly....even if you can get the car for cheap. Don't do it. Buy a cheapie that will get you around until you graduate and get a full-time job. An Audi like this could be a money pit.

the car is just annoying.. it needs tires and new shocks too. Dont get me wrong.. its been a good car for the year I have had it... I only paid 1100 for it and I have probaly put 15K miles on it. My dad got it for me... the dealership wanted 1950 for it but since he knew the guy i only ended up paying 1100. I just want to move onto something new. I am going to have him call the place he got it from to begin with and see what they have again 🙂

i can understand your want for a slightly newer car... but don't be silly and go buying something like that 90 Audi... (IMO) 🙂

At the shop where my car is geting fixed this morning, I saw a 88 Audi Quatro AWD... the exterior was a perfect blue, and I thought it was a 98 not a 88. I am going to go down there right now to check it out.. he's asking 2250... i think my dad could talk him down to 1500 though 🙂 .. this car is REALLY good looking.. i might have to take some pictures

Understand Audis are not VWs, they are expensive to repair and finding a qualified mechanic isn't easy. I was one of the few independents in SW Michigan that serviced these vehicles. And I always had two or three in a week for non-maintenance repairs.

bah, just got back from the shop.. its was going to orginally cost me 384 for everything to be replaced... my dad was able to get them down to 220, which is pretty much their cost on it. I hate sinking 220 bucks for the car, but i guess i have to sell it. The audi guy works at the shop and we talked about the car. It looks really good, and the exterior and interior are in really good shape. I am probaly just going to sell the car to my dad and go from there.

I checked out the car again and its beauitful 🙂 ... its a newly painted blue color with a NICE black leather interior. I talked to the guy about a trade and that a no go. Some kid working there said he was interested in my now fixed Jetta, so i told him 1500 bucks. He gave me a dirty look, but i stood firm in my price and gave him my number if he wanted to talk about it. I am probaly going to test drive the Audi tomorrow. Now i know you guys arent the biggest audi fans, but after seeing this car, I am really thinking about it.
