Here is another somewhat awesome thought....

If this module became somewhat standardized across a manufacturer or manufacturers....

How awesome would it be to swap them between vehicles?

Car 1 is within 500 miles of a change....
Car 2 still has 3000 miles of oil life....

Car 1 is the one you want to take on the upcoming family vacation....

Both cars can use same weight oil as each other?

Swap Car 2's module to Car 1... problem solved.

Yeah... I'm the guy that sends his oil out for analysis.

Again, circuit board that is keyed for the car etc....

In IT technology it's not hard to make a device that immediately MARRIES a car upon contact. Mainly based on PKI infrastructure....

What a joke, is anyone really that lazy they can't crawl under a car and loosen one bolt?. And what about the filter, I didn't see it getting changed out at all.

Hey, do whatever you want. I actually change my own oil with a vacuum pump every 3K or so miles. If you want to change it from the pan, do it! I don't usually. I can do the vacuum change when I get home from work in about 10 minutes and not get dirty.

Do what you want!

You still got to get under the car to replace the filter, unless you somehow relocate it?

I've had filter relocation kits on a few cars but none of my current cars. I do flters every 10K or every 3rd oil change so I am not getting under the car as often as I change the oil. I drive A LOT, and it's A LOT of stop and go - so I do the oil @ 3,333 miles and filter at 10K.

Nice thing is the Toyota Camry has the oil filter on top right below the exhaust manifold....
