9 GB temp directory?!

I was working on a friend's computer today - the thing was a mess, I got about 10 errors when Windows 98 booted up. Anyway, he noticed that he had a lot less free space than he thought he had, and after some searching I found out he had 9 GB of stuff in C:\Windows\Temp. He only has an 18 GB hard drive, so that's really not good. Is it safe to delete all of this junk? After all, it is the temp directory... can't really be important stuff, right?

For the most part, it's safe to delete, as these files are only temporary. The only thing you would have to watch out for is if, for example, you installed a program that required a reboot, then you deleted these files, then on the re-start your computer my freeze, because the files it's looking for are missing.

I delete ALL of my temp files weekly.

you should be ok to delete anything in the temp folder unless for some reason he/she has installed any programs in there (highly unlikely, but always a possibility).
