9.0 when starting up the IN9-32X-MAX...

I just got this motherboard as a combo with an Intel Core 2 Duo e6850. At first I had some trouble getting it into Windows, but by running it with a single RAM stick I was able to get in and download a BIOS update which seemed to solve all of the problems I was having (not to mention the BIOS not even working before updating it).

Anyway, everything seemed fine and I installed the uGuru utility from the motherboard CD, ran it, and noticed it wasn't really working properly (figured I needed to reboot, anything I tried to change including fan speeds just ended up giving me the error "Failed to over clock" or something of that sort). I restarted, and I noticed that the computer didn't post, so I looked at the post code display and it's saying 9.0. The manual says that it has something to do with the uGuru thing and the BIOS taking over, I believe. Either way, the first thing I tried to do was clear the CMOS and restart, so I did that but it was still showing 9.0 as soon as it's turned on.

So basically, I'm stuck. Can't really figure out what to do and it's taking too long to talk to someone at abit, so I decided to try here. Anyone got any suggestions? Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Believe I'd uninstall uGuru and see if that helps. If it does, forget about it. Sometimes the included apps misfire and that sounds like what's happening with your board.

If the board won't let you boot into Windows, try clearing the CMOS again, at the same time removing the battery and leaving it out for 30 seconds. Last chance, try re-flashing the BIOS with your new version. That will erase the BIOS and re-install with a fresh version.

If that doesn't work, maybe someone else can help (PM SerpentRoyal, he knows a lot about the Abit boards) - or you'll need to talk to Abit.

Good luck, Noel

if it won't POST then it's hardware & not the uGuru Windows GUI.
How about a full system spec.?
9.0. is usually either BIOS or power related though.

birdsonbat and Heidfirst,

If it's a BIOS related problem, how about what I suggested above, "Last chance, try re-flashing the BIOS with your new version. That will erase the BIOS and re-install with a fresh version."

If you did a BIOS update once, birdsonbat, you can do it again. You'll start with a fresh copy of the BIOS and that should make sure you have a good BIOS, and the problem should go away. And don't use uGuru again...

I would start with a full clearCMOS which needless to say should revert everything to defaults incl. voltages.
So, you'll probably want to go back to a single DIMM again until you can get into the BIOS & reset the RAM voltage from the JEDEC 1.8V to that recommended by the RAM manufacturer.

abit in9 32x-max
intel core 2 duo e6850
2gb samsung 500 (pc4200) RAM
pioneer 48x dvd/cd rom burner
geforce 8800 gt
deskstar 250gb sata HD

I CAN'T GET INTO WINDOWS. I CAN'T EVEN GET THE COMPUTER TO POST. If i could reflash the bios, i would. that would be the first thing i would do but i get nothing from the computer when i turn it one besides a quick 9.0.

i already tried the clear cmos switch three times, i took the battery out, and i tried to use the old school jumper method and nothing works.

birdsonbat,

I figured you were closed out of Windows, but didn't realize you couldn't post! Sorry...

Think it may be time to call Abit Tech Support and get an OK to RMA the board. If they agree, ask for a cross-ship - it's faster that way...
