8x DVD +/- RW $29.99 AR at OM 09/05

don't think this is good in socal, it's a microadvantage/btc drive instead. 🙁

edit: the maddog is suppose to be a nec 2500

That's a really nice price for the maddog drive, I got one a couple weeks ago for 40 bucks at OM, you can probably get it for 20 bucks with the visa coupon (if it still is valid, not sure).

how does the nec 2500 compare to the lite-ons?

The NEC is superior -- it is flashable to dual-layer, and it is much less finicky about media.

OfficeMax must be selling these at around cost, then making a killing on their 50-for-$50 DVD blanks.

To clarify: The MadDog should be the NEC 2500a. I'm burning a DVD-R on mine as I type this, flashed to full 2510 capabilities. The MicroAdvantage should be a TopGlory, aka BTC. I have one of these too. The NEC is better, but the BTC has received decent reviews.

Dual-layer is not very important yet, as the blanks are 10X as expensive. Look up "DVDFab" -- this is software that will burn an uncompressed DVD-9 to two 4.7 GB blanks. You can find an earlier shareware version of DVDFab if you look hard enough.

Where did you find these information? I checked the OM ad, could not find anything, not even the rebate promotion.

Ads are regional. Try a different state if you want to see the ad. OfficeMax has been running the same DVD burners on sale in different regions at different times, one burner at a time. They've been alternating the Maddog, MicroAdvantage, and KHypermedia burners. If it's not on sale in your local area, they *MIGHT* have the same deal online or you can wait a week or two and the sale will show up in your area.

OfficeMax has been drawing people into their stores with burners for a loooong time now. They're very popular as you can imagine. It's clearly part of their sales strategy. They may be loseleaders for them. Then again, they usually include rebates which don't have a 100% redemption rate.

I got the mad dog a few weeks ago by doing a phone order. The CSRs SHOULD treat the local flyers as national, but you might have to call back a few times.

I bought the mad dog from OM for $40 and hate this drive it plays disc but half the time cant copy, says the disc is dirty, the disc it plays fine is to dirty to copy?

got my 10.00 visa coupon and so first thing tomorrow "Pack up the babies, Grab the old ladies, Everyone goes" to OM for the 20.00 nec 2500!!

😀😀😀😀

Go to visa.com and search there.

First, I did search at visa.com before I posted. Secondly, I admit that I searched for office max not officemax and that made all the difference.😱

Since this drive has been advertised concurrently its limited stock the sub is the Pacific Digital 8x dualy(BTC and Litoen mech.)

This drive is not the best reader, though one of the best at burning. Use a Lite-On or Toshiba DVD-ROM for reading or playing. Why burn up a writer on reading or playing?

Keep in mind that the MicroAdvantage is an 8x DVD+R/4x DVD+RW and a 4x DVD-R/2x DVD-RW, not a true 8x/8x like the NEC.

But considering these things are being priced at what 52x CD-RW drives were a couple month ago, it's hard to complain.
