I have a 40 pack of 8x Teon DVD-R I bought when they were on sale about two weeks ago @ staples and Nero would burn them only at 1x. I flashed the writer with the latest firmware from liteon and then nero was able to burn at 2x.
My writer is rated at 4x for DVD-R and it was bruning at 4x fine with my previous set of 4x DVD-R.

Is there any way I can burn at 4x?

There are some numbers on the inside rim of the DVD -> CMDR47G-CAEWM03-021 0208

No idea what these numbers mean but i've seen people make big fusses about media codes and stuff....

so can anyone help me?

Have you tried +R media just for kicks?

I have that exact same burner and I can burn fine at 8X with a variety of media. However, all I use is +R with bitsetting.

Haven't tried +R, I like sticking to -R 'cos it's more compatible with DVD players...

Also, what's bitsetting?

Thx!

Bitsetting is a function that allows you to finalize +R media so that the disc is viewed as a DVD-ROM. This provides the most compability with all DVD drives and is generally considered much better than either -R or +R media. It only works with +R or +RW media, though.

It's extremely simple to use bitsetting with the 811S drive. I searched for the utility but didn't find it, so if you want me to email it to you, just PM me and give me your email address.

Chances are those Teon DVD-Rs are garbage; hence why they won't burn at their rated speed.

I just did a brief Google...yeah, quality seems poor.

Head over to cdfreaks.com or videohelp.com to find out what media is better quality :)

Well, I'm not sure about the Teon -R media, but all the Teon DVD+R I've picked up have been CMC media and they burn fine at 8x in my 811S drive. I know CMC ain't the best media in the world, but there is definately worse stuff out there.

What's FY - Fuji-Yuden ? ;)
Why do people buy this off-brand dreck and then expect it to work decently. There is almost always a name brand on sale somewhere that will be close enough in price to make no never mind. Don't buy unknown stuff no matter how cheap - you'll regret it.
. Make sure the DMA for the drive is set properly and install or update your ASPI layer software (DL from adaptec.com).
