8X AGP actually going to affect the 9700 Radeon?

I just ordered a new computer that's coming w/ an 8X AGP motherboard and ATI Radeon 9700 Pro. My buddy says that I won't see a difference w/ it even though the card is 8X compatible. So WTF?

It is capable of transferring data at 8x speeds. BUT current applications do not use or require that speed, 4x is enough for now. It's like saying you can lift a 50 pound rock, but all you'll be lifting are 25 pound rocks, so being able to lift 50 pound ones makes no difference.

Don't sweat it...your friend is jealous...Why drive a viper? You can't do 190mph? So what? You got a very cool or should I say HOT card. Why buy DDR333 for a system that uses DDR266? Well, as with most things, you can tweak the system to run faster while maintaining your memory specs. 8XAGP hasn't worked it's way into games YET...it won't be long though before it does...800MHz FSB's aren't that far off. You got a decent graphics card that has plenty of muscel...for now, enjoy it! 🙂
