Newton?s grave take on politics
A children?s Halloween window painting contest in Newton may have some Republicans on edge after a restaurant window was decorated with tombstones engraved with the names of John McCain, Sarah Palin and President Bush.
The eye-catching painting, on the window of the Sabra restaurant on Union Street, depicts a pumpkin-headed Barack Obama walking past the tombstones saying ?Change.?
Restaurant owner Elie Saroufim said the student who created the display was an eighth-grader taking part in the city?s annual Halloween painting contest, which is organized by the Newton Pride Committee and is open to children in Grades 3 through 8.
Saroufim said he had not received any complaints and could not see how the painting could cause offense.
?It is just something from a child?s imagination,? he said.
The Newton Pride Committee was unavailable for comment last night.
