I know athletes normally have pretty easy class schedules, but this kid is gonna be 14 years old taking college classes. In order to remain eligible he has to meet certain NCAA standards.

Swing...and a miss...

LMFAO!!!!!

It would have been MORE funny if he played baseball!

Yeah - At first, I typed, "Airball", but it did not have the cadence I was looking for.

It still worked ;)

i'm 6' and there are 4 other guys in my department(I/S) alone that are > 6'3"

i do believe, as mylifeforaiur, says, these giant 8th graders are becoming more common. heck, my daughter's 3 & 4 yr old's soccer team played another team with some kid who had to have been 8" taller than every other kid on the field.

I think he thinks this kid is either starting college or that you can become an athlete and get an easy MD or both.

Athletes usually will only have easy schedules if they choose easy classes/stupid degrees. You can't take Calc III as an athlete and expect to get a different level of work unless the school is corrupt.

6'4" 8th grader?!?!?!?

On one of my many trips to AAU nationals, there were 8th graders that were 6'8" and 6'9". The "Atlanta Celtics" had 3 players that were over 6'7". A 6'4" 8th grader is more common than you think at that level of play.

That's because this is their 5th time in the 8th grade.

This is pretty worthless. Just a sign of goodwill between player and program.

If the player screws up, does something stupid, etc., the school can rescind its offer. (Since it's unofficial, they might be able to rescind for any reason they wish. It's not like he signed a LOI.)
Even more so, the player can withdraw the commitment and go anywhere he pleases. Taylor King committed to UCLA in 9th grade, only to back out and commit to Duke as a junior (he then transferred, but that's another story.)

Interesting that nobody scolded Billy Donovan and the Florida Gators for doing the same thing. Duke Vitale roasted Kentucky and Gillispie for taking an 8th grader and turned around and praised Donovan and his recruiting of a 15 year old.

Florida basketball coach Billy Donovan just secured an oral commitment from 15-year-old Winter Park guard Austin Rivers, the youngest commitment in his 12 seasons at UF. Austin is the son of Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers. This is either a case of Donovan outworking other programs or an effort to keep up with Kentucky's Billy Gillispie and his Junior High Kids 'R Us recruiting strategy. ...

Baylor offers 13 year old!

Alex Foster is special, there is no denying that. He is six-foot-six, long and athletic, and has coordination, versatility, and a feel for the game that just cannot be taught. Did I mention he is 13 years old? Foster is the #1 player in Illinois for the class of 2013, and he received his first high major scholarship offer this past week, courtesy of Baylor University of the Big 12 conference.
