From a cold start up I intermittently get a message that my cpu speed has been changed and that I need to go into bios to change it. Message states that my cpu is at 1100 mhz. When I go into bios, my settings are as I left them 166x11. Using an barton 2500+. Can this be a cpu problem as I have replaced one 8rda3+ with another and still get the same problem.

8rda3+ v2.1
1gb crucial pc 3200
Allied 450w psu

This mostly happens when you've turned the machine on and then off again quickly. All you need to do is enter the bios, save the settings (without even making any changes), and it'll work fine until the next time it occurs.

Thought of that but it also does it after being shut down overnight. At any rate, my goal is to not have that happen at all. Never have encountered this before with any system.

Try turning off the switch on the power supply (or unplugging it, if there is no switch) after the computer shuts down. You'll need to turn the switch back on (or plug it back in, doh!) to power up the box in the morning, but it may fix the problem.

I did this......contacted epox cust support for about 4 days in a row....they were very quick to respond with possible problems, they responded on the same day and sometimes twice a day to my questions. Had me try things like, flashing bios, change power supply, check for mobo case grounding issues etc... Finally I just got another 8rda3+ and tried it out...SAME THING HAPPENED TO NEW ONE ALSO!!!!!.......I started thinking that maybe somehow my processor was bad. 2500+ barton.

So I bought an Asus A7n8x e deluxe......Have not had the problem since!!! With the same exact processor.

I noticed on the last bios update from epox for that board 10-17-2003, one of the fixes was to recognize barton cpus correctly.

So I emailed EPOX customer support again and asked them if the bios issue was not really resolved. HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THEM SINCE THEN!!!! That was two days ago.

Those are just the facts...not sure what to make of it but that's what happened.

the old firmware doesnt detect athlon xp's

get a bios update and then flash the bios with the updated firmware. it worked for me. it sets the fsb and clock speeds correctly.
