8RDA not recognizing XP CPUs

I have a couple 8RDAs(non +) and one is running fine(bought used in a system), and the other(bought used locally) works with a duron 1.3ghz, but I throw an XP1700/2100 and no boot.

At first I thought it might have been a jumper issue, and sure enough there wasen't a jumper on the FSB pins indication a 100mhz FSB. I put one on thinking it solved, and no go. Duron boots fine, XP's.... nothing.

My system:

8RDA
Radeon VE 32meg AGP
Micron 1x512 PC2700 (tried 2x256 kingston hyper x PC3000 with same results)
WD 80gig SE
Linksys NIC
Vantec fan controller
Lite on 16xDVD
Sony 48x CDRW
Lanboy aluminum case.

I've never flashed a bios, and am not sure which one is running currently. Could this be an issue? I just wanted to check and see if anyone knew of this problem. Thanks! I can check what bios and report back.

Try just a video card/floppy drive/ ram/ cpu & HSF / HDD.

Make sure that the jumper (between the ATX connector and the NB) is set for the 133 bus (XP cpu only).

Then make sure the Clear CMOS is set to run not clear.

Then make sure the front panel connections are correct.

Make sure that the PSU rocker switch is set to on.

then try starting it up.

Isn't there a jumper to force the fsb speed to a lower value for older processors?

Done and done. no go. The odd thing is I'm typing on the system right now running a 1.3 duron. I throw a 1700+ or 2100+ and it won't boot. Both chips are fine as I threw them in my second system and they work fine. =(

Try clearing the CMOS and then put in the new CPU.

*sigh* tried that. No go. Popped in my duron again and we're in business. I'm so sad I have a 2100+ here waiting to be overclocked! =)

as you mentioned in your original post... you may want to download and flash the newest bios (probably wont fix it though, since the original bios should have support for xp2100 cpu's)

if you want to know your current bios... it should be displayed when the system is first posting, or if you have sisoft sandra you can get the bios revision/bios date by running "cpu and bios information" then selecting "system bios"

Hmm... if your WD is on its own IDE cable, try jumpering it for Single Drive if it isn't already (this means pulling the jumper off the pins completely IIRC).

Also, if your case's front-USB wiring is plugged into the mobo's USB3 header, make sure that Pin #10 of the motherboard's USB3 header is left unoccupied. If it still won't work with the XP, try taking it out of the case and firing it up on cardboard with no drives, just keyboard, video, CPU/heatsink and memory. What are you using for a heatsink/fan unit there, by the way?

I am using a Huuuuge copper HS(about 4"x2" rectangle with a 92mm fan strapped on top.) Intake, side, and exhaust fans as well(very loud) I'll try the single drive setup in the morning. Sleepy now. Thanks guys!
