8RDA+ memory problems

Alright, I've heard of problems with Corsair memory and the 8RDA+, and I've heard of problems with Kingston HyperX memory and the nForce 2 chipset in general. I'm having problems with my memory (maybe Geil wasn't such a good idea afterall), and I need to get some new memory. I would have originally bought Corsair, but I'm not interested with even the slightest possibilities of incompatibility (I'm too lazy to send back). PLEASE recommend RAM to put im my 8RDA+. I want to be able to run at around 200 - 215 MHz FSB (400 - 430 effective) with fairly aggressive timings. I'd also like to save some money, but that's the least of my worries at this point.

TwinMOS? Corsair? Hell, I'll even try OCZ (though I'll do it reluctantly). Just please help. I'm losing my mind.

As far as I was aware only 512mb 2700 Crucial chips had problems with the nForce2 platforms?

I do OC, and I won't buy Kingston unless I have 10 people in here recommending them. They're great for non-OC'ers, but I've never known them as being good OC'ing RAM.

BTW, has anyone heard anything about Buffalo Technologies RAM?

Why? Kingston is good stuff! I use kingston myself and in my opinion it overclocks like a charm! :)

As for buffalo.....sorry who?

Buffalo?

Yeah, I know, Buffalo isn't exactly a household name, but i've heard that they use good chips. As for Kingston, you may have luck with them, but I've been reading hardware reviews (and never missing a single memory review) for well over a year now. Usually it'll vary who wins "best overclocking stick of RAM" in every roundup. Corsair in one, then Samsung in another, and then Geil or OCZ in another, and so on. However, I've never seen anyone praise Kingston RAM as being the best overclocker in any roundup. Ever. Not once. Honestly, when I saw that they came out with the HyperX series, I thought it was a joke, and I still do. Why are they trying to be something they're not. They make great RAM, they just don't make RAM that overclocks.

Anyway, isn't there someone else that you'd recommend other than Kingston? I really need to get new RAM.

Ilmater, the differences between Kingston ValueRam and Kingston HyperX are like the differences between night and day. I have used 2 x 512MB PC2700 of both on my Epox 8RDA+.

The ValueRam? I couldn't get it to run at DDR333 with 2 or 1 stick.

The HyperX? Great stuff. Got it running at DDR333 in DCDDR mode.

Don't waste your time worrying about HyperX. It works great.

IIRC, the Corsair related probs w/the 8RDA+ were attributed to a certain BIOS. I run the 29 Jan 2003 (can't see what the "build number" is right now!) and I run Corsair memory and it rocks.

I'm at 200MHz FSB right now w/no fancy tricks or severe overvolting or any crap like that. The 8RDA+ defaults to a 2.65V DIMM voltage instead of 2.500V. I left it there and am running at CAS2 to boot.

I am using a single 512mb stick of Corsair XMS3200C2. I have a second, identical stick in the mail as we speak, and I expect the same performance in dual-channel configuration. FWIW.

I also have the HyperX 256 MB PC2700 Cas 2-2-2-5-1T Dual channel on my 8RDA+. Kingston Value ram was in my old rig and it could only go about 6 MHz over stock and still be somewhat stable. When I first put my new rig together, I was able to set FSB to 199/10 multiplier with the 2-2-2-5 and boot into Windows.

I am extremely happy I found the HyperX *right* before I was going to purchase the Corsair.

Well, 10 people you are not, but you're definitely emphatic in your love for Kingston RAM. I ordered Corsair yesterday after speaking with someone that is intimately knowledgable about the problems with Corsair and the 8RDA+. However, if that doesn't work out, I'll definitely be looking to Kingston to fill my needs. Had I read all of these things before I ordered the Corsair, I would have probably ordered the Kingston instead. Impressive indeed.

In response to this its ironic, I recieved my PCStats newsletter and they happen to be reviewing it!

I can tell you, it would match your price range perfectly and from personal reviews that ive read, works wonders with nForce2 chipsets.

Here is the link to the conclusions of the review!

Hope that helps ya out :)

Looks like buffalo might be good after all :D

Dan :)
