No.

The adapter you're thinking of is for the camcorders that use those little VHS tapes, which were just a smaller amount of VHS format tape in a smaller package than a regular VHS tape, thus explaining why you could use an adapter and stick them in your VCR. 8mm is a different sized tape entirely. To the best of my knowledge there is nothing that can adapt them. Go buy an 8mm camera, transfer your video then return it. :)

(I don't condone doing that)

I'm sure some friend has an 8mm camera that you could borrow.

That's what I had to do. My old 8mm Sony went belly up so I had to borrow a neighbor's and transferred all the 8mm tapes to Mini-DV tapes. That way they're all digital and I can transfer them to my computer at my leisure and then to DVD's.

hmm, do they make an 8mm video tape player?

Hehehe, you are going throught the exact thought process I did. I scoured the internet looking for a cheap solution. I finally decided just to borrow the neighbor's camcorder. I put them on Mini-DV tapes for several reasons:

1) I have 2 Mini-DV camcorders
2) I couldn't fit all the video on my hard drive and I wanted to speed the process up so I could get the camcorder back to my neighbor
3) They're are now digital so I get lossless playback and can just pop them in a Mini-DV camcorder whenever I feel like to put them on my computer and then to DVD
4) It gives me another copy that will (supposedly) outlast the DVD's
