8MM to CD or DVD or VCD the EASIEST Method

I have tons of 8MM tapes of family events and I want to put them to VCD or DVD's. I want a simple method I don't want to add titles or music or any editing just transfer the tapes to Digital.

I bought a Dazzle for about $40 but I heard about these all in one units that does all the work instead of your CPU.
What about those do they work?

I want a simple I plug my camcorder to my Firewire or USB2.0 ( I have both) and press a couple of buttons then have a simple file. When I use my dazzle I get like 2 minutes of video thats like 2 GB's in size.

Is there a device that will encode it automatically to say mpeg instead of .avi.

Your best bet is to buy/rent/steal (just kidding) a sony digital8 camcorder... You can use that to play analog 8mm through your firewire port to your pc...You can also hook up your 8mm camcorder to a minidv (using the 8m's analog out) and use the minidv camera as a passthrough..

I think you missed the point, I want to backup my 8MM tapes to digital and make DVD's to pass to friends and family and to archive for safe keeping.

Sigh.. I thought that you can get the idea from my post.. here's a diagram:

8mm tape ----> Digital8 deck/camera ---firewire--->Pc----> Whatever you'd like (dvd/vcd/etc. etc.)... If you still can't figure that out then please do a google..

Oh Ok I get it, But is there another easy way? Because I don't want to get Another camcorder I just bought a miniDV.

Easiest is to get a table top dvd recorder, plug in your camcorder, press record on dvd recorder, press play on camcorder, and come back when the tape is done.

Sorry for being rude - had a rough day... Another easy way is just hooking the analog outs on your 8mm camera to your minidv camera and using it as a pass through (or DV BRIDGE as they say).. Here's a diagram:

8mm camera ----(svideo and/or red/yellow/white cable)--->minidv camera---(firewire)--->PC

Hit capture on the pc and press play on the 8mm (the minidv should be on VTR mode).. That usually works.. remember to remove any tape from the minidv camera...

Easiest way is to open the phone book and start calling local video or photo places to see if they do it.
