I have about 40 hours into this now and it's makin' me crazy. I am unable to install Win2K Pro on either of 2 IBM SCSI drives on an Adaptec 29160N. I keep getting this error: Disk I/O error: Status=00008001 (Win 98 fails with a similar message.)
The drives work fine as secondary drives with another boot drive.
I tried using the Win2K recovery console, fixmbr and fixboot do not change anything. I am unable to perform a fdisk /mbr (even after I have fdisked and formatted with FAT32).

I ended up using another motherboard to load the operating system, now everything is OK except for this shutdown problem. This seems to me to be an 8KTA3 problem, and I do have the lstest BIOS>
