Hi,
Am at end of tether !!!!

Got a cheap 8KTA2 and thought seeing as id saved money on the board, id get myself a nice CPU :)

However - it is MASSIVLY unstable. It just hangs sometimes, cant move mouse, caps lock wont go on or off, power button dont work.....BUT sometimes it'll run for a few hours fine, it doesnt like playin games much, tends to crash more often in games!!!

I HATE these non-obvious problems!!

System is - XP1800, 8KTA2, gf 2 mx 32mb, and thats it....nothing else plugged in! the 128mb ram is 133mhz but i keep it to 100 as the auto cpu speed select sets my CPU at 1150 at 100mhz.

Any ideas, have swapped mobo already with no luck and have swapped CPU. EPOX dont quote the XP as a reccomended choice for the 8kta2 - could that be it? It recognises my cpu as an XP so it should be ok - EPOX are just slow at updatin their site apparently...

N E one with the same config as me????

Help....sniff......

I think it`s your board since it`s a KT133 board and Epox don`t have that board approved for XP processors on their CPU list,so I would change the board to something like Epox 8KTA3Pro that does support the XP 1800+.

Btw welcome to Anandtech forums.

:)

The only thing I can say with this kind of general thing would be to make sure your update all your drivers etc....

However, being that the board doesn't support 133FSB, properly, I'd say there is a good chance that it just isn't gonna work with that chip.

I used an XP on an 8kta3, which doesn't officially list XP support either, but that at least runs properly at 133.
