I jsut got a Maxtor 80 gig 7200 rpm drive, and the EPOX 8K7A recognizes it as a 33xxx mb hard drive when booting, and then in windows XP (already have the drive formatted to full 80 gig capacity NTFS, used a different computer) it recognizes it for a second, but once you try to open it, it doesnt work and dissappears as a drive.

I just flashed to the latest bios, but that didnt work.

Any suggestions?

I have a 60 GB and 40 GB in a box with this same board but I'm using a Promise TX2 Ultra100 IDE controller card. If you can't get the onboard IDE controller to see it as 80 GB, you can get a controller card, and they're not terribly expensive. Less than $40. Not a bad thing to have. I got it because I wanted support for more than 4 IDE devices. BTW, what is the "latest BIOS" you just flashed to?

I have an 8k7a that I've been running trouble free for over a year and I have had an 80 gb IBM in it for the last month. Its partitioned though and my last bios was in the winter for it.

I have winME and use fat 32.

I suggest you go to the hd mfg site and download their test program, maxblast I think, and run it.

you sure you are using the right cable and it is plugged in the right way? (blue connector to mobo/black to master/single drive?)

I have tried both spots on the Master IDE channel, and I am using the IDE cable that came with the 80 gig drive.

I have tried it as a slave, Master, CS, none worked.

yep, its all hooked up right... far as i know.

I know the drive does work as a 80 gig, because it reads as that in one of my other systems...
