Since TAers have helped me so much in the past, I just thought I would keep you informed of my recent experiences. I have had my epox for about a week and I ordered 2X256 Crucial pc2100 cas 2.5 ECC memory. I had never bought ECC before and it was only a couple dollars more per stick, so I thought what the hay!
Anyway, if I had the memory timings set to auto, everything seemed pretty good until I upped the FSB. Even with the mem at auto I would get random errors above say 137. I downloaded Prime 95 and started doing torture tests as I adjusted the memory settings. It seems that the ECC memory does NOT like to be run at CAS 2 at all, and as the FSB went up so did the frequency of windows Blue screens or lock ups. (real erratic). It seems stable and prime95 doesn't report any problems as long as I leave it at cas 2.5. Currently I have all the mem settings to : 8-8-8-2-6-2.5-2.
I have seen quite a few posts declaring that they run their crucial pc2100 at 2, so I wanted share my experiences with overclocking and ECC memory. So not only is it a tad slower (not really noticable unless i use a synthetic bench), but it seems to be more sensitive to cas setting. Not the most scientific, since it was only one board and two different sticks, but thought it might help somebody out.
