8K5A2+ Problem

Me and my brother wanted to play some 1v1 CounterStrike (he'd host on his mad new pc).

Now initally we never installed the LAN connector.

I went tonight to install it, however it won't install. It doesn't matter if I chose auto or manual whatever driver I pick i always get the error "cannot find specified file"

He is running Win2k Professional. Does anyone have a clue?

Oh yeah, the 8k5A2+ is an EPOX motherboard.

THanks

I'm using this mobo as we speak (type?) Two things:

1. IIRC, you have to ENABLE the onboard NIC in the BIOS, where in the BIOS, you'll have to find in the manual or by looking carefully...it's late and I"m tired. 😉
2. The driver for the onboard NIC is on the CD that came with the board. Put the CD in and hit the Autoexec. file. Then you can choose "install driver for NIC" or whatever. It IS on there...that's how I got mine working.

once you enable it in the bios, windows probably will auto detect it and possibly install "generic" drivers for it if available
that sounds like it probably wont happen since it wont install drivers now....

if you cant find them on the motherboard cd for some reason, or cant find the cd (it happen 😉 ) go to their website and look for the motherboard and then drivers and it should be on there as well

Yep. Windoze will auto-detect it as you get to the desktop. FWIW, there is a NEWER driver for the onboard NIC. It's on Epox's site. 🙂

nu uh...

Its enabled in the BIOS, but there is not "intsall LAN" function.

If i click on Install lan I get two things: Readme, and explorer in the LAN folder.

I messed around for 15 minutes and still couldn't get it to work.

However, i noticed that if i picked ANYTHING it would fail but the LAN would then be the failed version (Ie: Let us say it is VIA 10/100 Fast Ethernet. If I picked VIA 6345234 LAN it would fail and the device would now be recognzied as VIA 6345234 LAN )

is it showing up in device manager? (if so, with a question mark, exclamation mark?)

right click in device manager on it, properties, update driver, and just point it to the cd it might find it
if not, you can take a deeper look and see if you can find the driver and then try
if not again, download of the epox site and see

or just uninstall it from device manager, restart and see if it works then
