8k5a2+ and barton2500+

Hi guys,

I didnt' think this setup would work but it did. Epox didn't state that the board would accept bartons.
but i put it in and it ran fine. didn't do nothing but just bumped the buss up to 166 and boom i get 1.8xx gig.

I was looking for some reviews to see if this set can reach 200 fsb. I read many reviews and it certainly does with the newer boards and it actually can go real high if you got good cooling on it. i have a swiftech on my board my right.
The only thing that really concerns me is that of the PCI divider. i'm not sure what this board is. if the fsb = 200 is the PCI divid gonna double from 33mhz to 66mhz? i think that would cause some serious problems. Someone please let me know if this setup is a Go or NO GO.

thankx

There is no 1/6 divider for the PCI clock, so the PCI bus will be out of spec at 200MHz FSB. It will run at 200 / 5 = 40MHz, which is pretty bad. Peace.

I put my mobile XP Barton in my old Epox 8K5A a couple of days ago, worked fine just like yours but JSSheriden's right don't even bother trying for 200fsb, pci will be way out of spec. You can run it up to 189 with the pci at 37, thats as high as I'd go for long term.

yeah, running it at 195 corrupted my hdd a long time ago. i'd stay around 185mhz to be safe. anyone know if the 8k5a2+ can go above 12.5x multiplier? apparently 13=12.5...and anything higher is really low...
