8IRXP and Geforce4

I have a 8IRXP and am thinking of getting a Geforce 4. I noticed on another site that some board have a problem with a capacitor in the way of the AGP card. (see http://www.hardocp.com/articles/visiontek/epoxvtti4600.html)

I notice on the 8IRXP there is a capacitor about 16mm high about 25mm from the end of the AGP socket. Does a Geforce 4 fit?? Does anybody have one or could they comment on the capacitor placement??

Ive read that Gigabyte have already stated that if any Gigabyte board owners have problems with the GF4 line of cards they will RMA fix/replace the board if any of their boards are at fault.

Ok I need some help. I have 2 Gigabyte GA-8ixrp board with 1g of mushkin DDR PC2100 ram in an Antec SX840 case with aAntec 403 watt power supply. My problem is I have tried 3 different GeForce ti4600 cards and have the same problem with all 3 cards and the two motherboards. The video blanks in and out and then in a few seconds shuts the entire PC down. If I remove the GeForce cards and put back in the GeForce3 Ti500 the systems run fine. I have tried Visiontek cards and PNY cards and both have the same problem in both motherboards. Please any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Alos, does anyone have a phone number for Gigabyte as I can not find one to call them. I have sent several emails with no response. I am using the F5 bios on both boards with an Intel 2.2A GHz processors.

If your not afraid of a beta bios you could try this.. f6d bios.

Working fine for me, I also never had anyproblems with the f4 or f5 bios' either though.

I just put together a system with this board and a Visiontek Ti4600 board. I had no clearance problems at all. I saw the capacitor you're referring to, but it's not tall enough to cause a clearance problem. It works so far. XP just doesn't want to boot from the RAID array...

Can anyone supply me there BIOS settings and/or memory type you are using in the machine along with power supply. I am still unable to get either the Visiontek or PNY GeForce4 Ti4600 to work. I even went out and bought another GA-8IRXP board and still ahve the same problem. I am using F5 BIOS. The F6 BIOS seems to have been pulled from Gigabyte everyone time I try to download it I get a message that the file can not be found. Anyone have any advice or help ? Is there way to check and see what the AGP port is running at ?

FYI.. the F6 bios is back up now @ giga-byte.

I've got an 450w Startech Power Supply.. one thought.. are you sure you have the secondary 4-pin, 12v power header plugged into the board?

Good Luck,

Okay finally was able to download F6 BIOS. System runs now but when I really tax the system like running the GeForce3 Demo of chamelon the screen will pop once in a while. any suggestions ? I have screen set to 1024 X 768 at 100Mhz refresh rate

Ok, folks problem finally solved. I want to thank everyone for the help and suggestions. I would have to say before using a GeForce4 Ti4600 and Winows XP make sure you have the F6 BIOS. Next if you want to run anything beyond 60Hz refresh range with Windows XP Pro you will need to see about a fix. I tried one that Visiontek tech sent me he said for some people it work and others it didn't. I can say in my case it work. I now run at 1024 X 768 at 100Hz with no problems. Again thanks for the help and suggestions.
